Untitled (Parallel Vienna)

Luan Bajraktari has created an additional space in the former post office building in Vienna, which resembles a monarchist labyrinth with long corridors and countless rooms. A space in the space made with fences and pliers. A space confined by wire mesh. A non-accessible space. Not a cage — it is open at the top. Sky is allowed. One cannot enter, but one can see inside the confined. Into the delimitation. Does one find oneself inside or outside? And of what? His ‘fenced space’ fills the exhibition space completely; it is transparent and creates the idea of imprisonment. It remains unclear if the viewer outside is not the prisoner and if it would not be preferable to be inside Luan Bajraktari’s ‘fenced space’. Two ropes of barbed wire complete the fence on the top. One is tempted to forget the metaphor of the border, the camp and the prison and to move into the freedom of this enclosure.
